The Giver

  1. Q1:I would say that rules make life easy, because people feel more comfortable and secure if they follow rules. On the other hand , we could think that those rules take out freedom, because in the society people can`t choose their own work, and they must do what the rules say.

Q2: I totally agree with this idea. I think that old age people seem to be treated with respect , for example , the giver is an old man that knows everything and his work is considereted to be the most important in the community. However , there is a particular thing that strikes me, at a certain age , old age people are released, they are killed.

Q3: Laws are very important in the community, the people within the community must obey the laws, the could be punished if they don`t do so. There are small rules and big rules , silly and important , the smollest rules sometimes are disobey, for example riding the other`s people bike, and there are rules that can`t be disobey, one would be the people`s job, they can`t change that rule. Certainly, those rules control the citizens in many ways.

    Q4:

Q5: Gabriel is the little baby who jonas` father is taking care of. Gabiel has been taken to jonas` home in order to see his fisical and mental development, because this little baby is different from others.

Q1: I would say that rules in the Giver's society makes everything more structured but it also makes, at the same time, everything more predictable because this rules allows you to do certain activities while others are forbidden so in a way you you could stablish that this rules also take partially your freedom.

Q2: In the Giver's society everyone and specially the old ones are valued. The old ones are more taken care of just by the fact that they are treated separately from the others and because specially trained people handle with them. Another reason is that some of the most important jobs in the community are taken by the old ones.

Q3: The community respects some traditions that has been practiced for a very long time such as the ceremy of the twelve's as well as the individual ones, for example the one where you have to describe your dreams. I think the aim of this is to make people believe on something and not doubt about them so in a way is like you are distracting them so that they can't look what's really going on around themselves.

Q4: As I said in answear three I think that these rules, ceremonies and stuff makes people more obedient so in that way none of hem can criticise what the others above orders to do.

Q5: Gabriel is a baby that has been taken care of by Jonas's father. Up to now we only know that this little baby is weak so Jonas' father is wishing for him to cure and grow up in a healthy way.
